KBJ Architects provided services for the relocation of six remote testing laboratories into the existing water plant in a facility in Jacksonville’s historic Springfield District. KBJ’s challenge with this project was to provide a state of the art facility while preserving the historical aspects of the original 100 year old 20,000 square foot brick building.

The process involved documentation of the existing laboratory buildings, and complete programming and space planning for the new facility.

In addition to housing the laboratories, the new facility provided other features including a new second floor for administrative offices, a public viewing gallery for the first floor labs and a museum for a historically significant steam driven water pump currently in place.
